According to the legend the Virgin Mary herself appeared on an apple tree in the same location where the church now stands, and in fact this church is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin. The church retains a wooden sculpture, even after having been rebuilt after the earthquake of 1976, the Madonna con Bambino by Domenico da Tolmezzo, which was the last remnant of a wooden ancon from 1481.
