Probably a primitive church was already present during the fourteenth century and an apostolic visit (1585) by Giacomo Castellano shows the presence of an altar dedicated to St. Bartholomew. Severely damaged by the 1976 earthquake, the church is the subject of restoration and safety measures on a project by the engineer Lorenzo Saccomanno.
