The church is located in the countryside between the capital and the hamlet of Barazzetto, on a river terrace overlooking the valley of the Corno stream. Tradition has it that in this place, called Maserate, around a first church probably from the 1300s, the ancient town of Coseano rose, destroyed by raids or a fire. Fights between the Austrians and the French also took place in this area during the Napoleonic invasion of 1797.
