The building is mentioned in a document dated 1350, cited in the will of a certain Pellegrina di Toppo who wanted to donate two pounds of oil for the lighting of the church.
The current appearance is due to the alterations and enlargements carried out during the twentieth century, in 1933 and in 1957, the year in which the sacristy and the bell gable were built.
After the damage suffered by the 1976 earthquake, the ancient foundations of the apse were discovered during the restoration work.
