Cornino Lake Regional Nature Reserve

Friuli Collinare - Cornino Lake Regional Nature Reserve
The regional natural reserve of the Cornino Lake covers an area of 487 hectares and contains a variety of environments that accompany the course of the Tagliamento, defined as the “king of the Alpine rivers”. The lake, with its crystal clear and emerald waters, is set in a basin of glacial origin.

Its length of the lake is just over 140 meters, while its depth is of 8 meters. The underground water circulation is such as to allow a rapid exchange of water, giving the lake the particular transparency and the very low temperature variations of its waters (9 -11 ° C). The visitor center is the main reference point of the reserve. From here various itineraries start and data relating to the various aspects of the territory and the activities in progress are provided.

Most of the initiatives are connected to the Griffon Vulture (Gyps fulvus) Project, started in the 1980s, which led to the creation of a breeding colony. The area is suitable for birdwatching, as it is home to many other birds, including nocturnal and diurnal raptors, such as the kite, eagle and eagle owl.
