Tagliamento River

Friuli Collinare - Tagliamento River
The Friulian hilly area is lapped to the west by the Tagliamento river, the last natural river with a torrential character in Europe, the most important river in the region: for centuries it has been the main axis of communication between the heart of the Alps and the upper Adriatic, marking the life of the communities that overlooked it.

The middle course of the Tagliamento is the most intact stretch of  the river, from a geomorphological point of view and the most suggestive from a landscape point of view, in particular the Piana di Osoppo and the narrow of Pinzano, with the neighboring territories of Forgaria nel Friuli, Ragogna, San Daniele del Friuli and Dignano.

The vegetation that sets roots in the river bed is sparse and discontinuous, mainly herbaceous and shrubby. Rich in biodiversity, numerous protected species nest in its wide bends.
